Martingale System

Like many things in the world of gambling, the Martingale System dates back to France in the 18th century, when gambling was arguably even more popular than it is today. Despite being one of the worst gambling systems around it has remained well known and, sadly, well used. Here we explain briefly what it is and why it is far from foolproof.

What is the Martingale System?

Martingale is a form of staking plan that is predominantly used for roulette but which can be used to play any of the best online casino games that offer a roughly even chance of winning, such as blackjack or baccarat.

Whenever you win you profit by one unit and whenever you lose you double your stake, thus ensuring that on your next spin/hand you will win and, overall, be one unit up. Many people stumble upon the idea of the Martingale System, or something similar, by themselves, and think they have discovered the holy grail of gambling – a system that cannot lose.

Whenever you win, even if that's after two losses, three losses or even 10 or more losses, you will always be one staking unit in profit… you really can't lose right?

Should I use it?

No! No! And, just to be sure, NO!

Martingale is heavily flawed, at least as a method for making a long term profit, let alone a guaranteed profit. Under conditions that could never exist in the real world it is indeed a guaranteed money maker. However, not even the best online casinos, or the biggest and best that Las Vegas can offer, boast such conditions.

For Martingale to guarantee profit you would need a casino with no maximum bet, you yourself would need unlimited time and unlimited money, you would need a casino that never closes and you would need the nerve to bet tens, hundreds, thousands or even millions of dollars all just to make a proportionately tiny profit.

Martingale may deliver a short term profit but play it for long enough and you will hit a long losing streak. Moreover, this could happen the very first time you use the betting system and it will almost certainly happen sooner than you think. When such a run comes you will find you hit the casino's staking limit or, more probably, lose all your money and, crucially, because of the house edge, that loss will be bigger than all your accumulated wins previously.

Live Dealer Casino Games

The world of casinos has changed a lot over the years and the biggest change of all probably came in the mid-1990s when online casinos were first developed. Since then there have been smaller developments, with the recent growth of mobile casinos one of the more significant, but it is live dealer casinos that we are going to look at more closely here.

Live dealer casinos have actually been around longer than many people think, having first sprung up in around 2026 but it is only really in the last two years or so that they have gained a real following. Where once live dealer games were quite a niche, now most of the best US online casinos feature these great games – you can see which casinos offer them by checking out our online casino reviews.

What are Live Dealer Casinos?

Standard online casinos use computerized versions of casino games, with the outcomes being determined by a random number generator (RNG). In contrast, live dealer casinos are genuine, real life games, with the action streamed live over the internet from an actual, physical casino, or sometimes a purpose-built studio.

Live dealer casinos use optical character recognition (OCR) technology to translate the real life cards or roulette wheel into data that the player can interact with in order to place bets, receive winnings, make decisions and so on.

Why are Live Dealer Casinos so Good?

All of the great casino sites we work with can be trusted 100% but for some players there is always the lingering doubt over RNG games, especially if, for example, the dealer makes a string of unlikely 21s to beat you at blackjack. With a live dealer version of blackjack you can actually see real cards being dealt before your eyes.

In addition to that, some casinos will offer separate bonuses for their live games, meaning you have even more free money to get your hands on.

Most casinos that offer live games will usually have roulette and blackjack, although you may also find craps and baccarat too. Playing live dealer games is just the same as playing the RNG games in technical terms but offers so much more in terms of realism and excitement, so why not give them a try today and see why so many players are turning to live dealer action for their casino fun?

Progressive Slots Can Change Your Life!

The best online casinos around feature a huge variety of games, from slots to roulette, blackjack to video poker and baccarat to craps but progressive slots are the only game that can change your life forever in less time than it takes to say "make me a millionaire".

Progressive slots, sometimes called "progressives" or jackpot slots, have huge, huge top prizes that go far beyond what any other game offers. Bet $5 on blackjack and a "natural", that is to say, blackjack itself, pays $7.50. Stick that $5 on a single number at roulette and if your luck – and your number – are in, you'll get a very handsome payout of $180. Play a standard slot with your five bucks and if your luck is REALLY in you might hit the jackpot and walk away with $500, maybe even a $1,000 or more.

However, if you decide to give progressive slots a go, that $5 – or perhaps even just $1 or less – could see you win the huge, life changing progressive jackpot worth $1m or sometimes even much, much more than that!

Progressive slots have lotto-sized prizes but – thanks to mobile casinos – you can play them whenever and wherever you want and you don't have to wait around for the draw either. Just power up any of the sites we feature here, which are all among the best online casinos accessible to US players, and you'll find a selection of progressive slots with prizes ranging from tens of thousands of dollars, right up to seven figure jackpots… or more!

The biggest jackpot ever won on a progressive slot was worth more than $20m and, what's more, the spin that won it cost just 25c! Forget work, forget bills, forget worrying if you can afford that extra holiday, if you hit it big on a progressive slot your money concerns could well be over.

Naturally, your chances of winning are small, but one famous gent hit the progressive jackpot not once, but twice, in Las Vegas – Elmer Sherwin is the name! That proves it can be done and you've got to be in it to win it so why not try your luck on a progressive slot today?

History of Slots

Slots generate huge revenues for casinos and just about every casino, both online and "real world", features plenty of these games. If you fancy playing some slots today, why not check out our online casino reviews or keep reading to learn more about the history of these exciting machines.

The first slots ever developed were made in the USA at the end of the 19th century. Whilst there are various competing claims as to who built the first ever slot, it is generally accepted that Sittman and Pitt's poker machine, developed in Brooklyn in 1891, was effectively the world's first ever slot.

This crude machine bore little resemblance to the amazing modern day machines and used five drums containing 50 playing card faces, with winning spins paid manually, based on the various poker hands. The machines were often placed in bars and prizes could range from a beer or whisky to cigarettes and cigars.

Around the same time on the west coast, Charles Fey was creating a simpler slot in San Francisco. Rather than all the various winning poker hands, this used just five symbols, including a Liberty Bell which would give the machines its name and which still features on slots today. There were three reels instead of five drums and with fewer possible winning combinations automated payouts became possible.

Slots changed little from these early popular machines until the early 1960s when the first entirely electromechanical slot was created by Bally. This enabled far larger automatic cash payouts and this style of slot was prevalent for around 15 years until video slots slowly began to appear.

Early models were little more than an enclosed monitor but as computer technology became more advanced in the 2026s and 2026s evermore advanced video slots were developed. The improvement in graphics, sound and gameplay continues today, with a huge range of modern slots featuring movie-like storylines, huge payouts and a wide range of split-screen capabilities, bonuses and features.

In more recent times progressive jackpot slots, with top prizes in the millions of dollars, as well as 3D slots, have been developed and you can find out which online casinos have these games by reading our online casino reviews.

History of Blackjack

Blackjack is one of the best games in the casino and here we take a look at the game's origins and how it has developed over the years.

The history of blackjack, as with most casino games, contains a lot of myth and rumor and whilst little is 100% certain it is thought that the game's origins date back to at least the early 17th century.

One thing that we can say with near-certainty is that the game derived from the game of "21" which was very popular in Spain and France in the 18th century. Legendary Spanish author Cervantes mentioned a game where the aim was to reach 21 (but not exceed that total) and in which aces counted as one or 11… and that was way back in 1601.

However, going back to an even earlier point in history, some argue that the game's true roots lie in a Roman game in which wooden blocks were used. Other people argue that Trente-Un (31), a game that is referenced as early as the year 1440, was blackjack's precursor and there could well be some truth in this.

21 itself became increasingly popular in the 17th and 18th centuries and was spread around the globe by traveling merchants. Paris and other European cities were hotbeds of 21 and ultimately immigration took the game to America.

A more modern form of blackjack did not really develop until the early 1900s and it wasn't until the legalized gambling of the 1930s in Nevada that we really saw the game as it is today come through.

Casinos argued for a higher payout to make the game more enticing and a "natural" 21 consisting of an ace of spades and any black jack was paid out at a huge 10/1! The name stuck, though the generosity of the payout didn't, and blackjack as we see it today, with a 3/2 payout for any "natural" was created, along with the new name.

Blackjack then developed with various rule differences designed to tinker with the house edge, combat card counting and keep players interested, but in essence the game hasn't changed much since.

Blackjack can now be played online, on mobile devices or in real casinos, whilst live dealer casinos are the latest online development but, despite new game variants and slight changes, the core of the great game of blackjack has stayed the same for the past 70 years or so, and it's history stretches back much, much further.
